Liverpool will be without the services of Nathaniel Clyne for up to three months as he bids to recover from back surgery.

The 26-year-old England international injured himself in the club's pre-season match with Tranmere.

After returning to training in September, Clyne broke down again before it was decided to go under the knife.

Part of a statement on the club's official website read: "Liverpool can confirm Nathaniel Clyne has undergone minor back surgery.

"The defender, who hasn’t figured for the Reds this season due to the injury, underwent the procedure on Monday. Clyne will now begin a rehabilitation programme with the clubs medical team.

"There were no complications with the operation."
